A basic checkbook cover made of pre finished leather starts about $65
The fully tooled, hand stitched, and hand dyed example in the photo would be about $250
Materials included:
- Exterior: Veg Tan, 2-5oz Cow hide, depending on the project
- Other materials available for exterior: Vary by project and intended use
- Interior: (if lined) Veg Tan, Pig - an exceptionally tough, thin, leather
The amount of detail required for the tooling and custom dying of a project varies by design. Quotes are based on a combination of the cost of materials, plus the time needed to complete the artwork.

The Story behind the Western Tooled Checkbook Cover
This Western Tooled Leather Checkbook Cover was custom designed for a client who wanted something really special and unique
A long time horseman and farrier, a rodeo aficionado, and a rough stock rider at heart, a good bronc ride just HAD to be part of his design!
The energy of the ride is tastefully corralled by the simple lines of the border, meant to feel like an old-time, build it with what you've got (AKA branches) round pen, which also tie nicely to the Oak motif that he selected.
A classy classic, a double rope basket weave bridges the back of the fold to tie the design together....and make the fold softer and more flexible.
The flip side showcases the familys' brand, the Lazy K, framed out by a representation of a traditional Oak Leaf Pattern.
The interior of the checkbook cover has a pocket to hold the ...check book... and a matching pocket on the other side for a register, a few cards, or...? It was the clients' preference that we do one large pocket, for varsatility, as opposed to several smaller credit card style pockets.
Top it off with a slot at the back for his favorite pen, and you have the perfect solution for long term service!
Each piece was hand cut, fitted, dyed, and hand finished. All stitching completed by hand.
