    Standard Spur Straps

With a flavor of the Desert Southwest, these traditional style Western Spur Straps can be custom tooled and finished in the style and color of your choice!

In the Desert Southwest, as you may or may not know, there are a lot of thick, thorny bushes and heavy brush. When riding through this terrain, you need to have the right gear! Many early spur straps had the buckle placed towards the outside of the boot, for quick and easy access to remove them as needed. However, when faced with the quagmyre of havy underbrush that ranchers and cowboys had to negotiate in this new territory, the buckles being set to the outside of the boot became a problem. The thin straps would get caught in the thorny brush; the buckles could even become undone ....especially if one's mount became ....upset about the terrain...

As so often happens, need brought change. Buckles moved to the inside of the boot, to keep them from entanglement. This also brought the 'fringe benefit' of easy adornment in the form of conchos on the outside of the boot. Conchos, set snugly against the side of the spur strap, tend to not get caught up in the heavy brush (although, should you need to ride through the mesquite....you might prefer to order a simple set, with no conchos...)

The options are endless. simple, untooled, harness leather. English Bridle for more flexibility. An endless array of tooling designs available.

    Dove Wing Spur Straps

Own a piece of history, with your own Custom Tooled (or plain) leather Dove wing Spur Straps

This "Old tyme" style of spur strap is a simple, one piece design that has no buckles, no conchos, and no hardware of any type. They are most often used for the Western rider who leaves their spurs on their riding boots, or, by those who do not prefer to use a rubber strap or tie down for their spurs- allowing the spur, with the Dove Wing strap attached, to slide up and off the boot when not needed.

Due to the minimal adjustment on these straps, it is important that you let us know your boot size and width when ordering to ensure the best fit. We have made a lot of these through the years, and, have more than a little practice getting it right with this information. However, if you have your boots and spurs already, we can even be extra safe by walking you through the easiest way to take measurements prior to setting to work on your custom project.
