While kangaroo and rawhide are far and away our preference, we also can work with leather, latigo, and other materials.
Due to the nature of the materials and process, each product is a work of art, and no two will be exactly alike.
Quotes are based on a combination of the cost of materials plus the time needed to complete the artwork.

The Story behind the hatband
A special design for a roper, who had a calf hide that he wanted us to use. The 'why' behind that is a story a little too long for this venue, but, it is important to mention because calf is a very buttery soft leather....that is a little spongy.
When working with hand cut lacing, the pieces are cut, and then the back side edges are beveled down to a fine point on one or both sides, depending on the material and project.
Kangaroo leather, rawhide, and latigo are the most common leathers used for this very reason; it makes the edges lay down nice and tight.
Calf, being less dense, will have a different look, as you can see in these photos.
The client was thrilled with the final product, as he knew (as you know know) what to expect from this material. The hand stitched 'breakaway hondo' on the turnback was a fun and personal touch! The two toned pineapple knots, and ring knots that allow for size adjustment, were exactly what he wanted. Finished off with a clipping from the tail of his favorite mount, and his project was complete!
Braided leather hat bands are not a common request, as they are available at very low cost from many different sources. However, I felt that including these photos for your education had merit, and am more than happy to put together a quote for you, should you want something that you just can't find!
