Each braided or hitched piece is a work of art, and no two will be exactly alike.
The amount of detail required for braiding and/or hitching a project varies by design. Quotes are based on a combination of the cost of materials plus the time needed to complete the artwork.

The Story behind the heart
This intricatly braided horse hair piece holds a special place in my heart.
The abridged story is simply, that this horse changed the course of my life, and is responsible for introducing some of my very favorite people into my world. Despite the fact that I never met his actual owners, when I was asked to design and create a piece to commerate his long and well loved life, I was absolutely honored.
Now, the challenge presented itself in a few ways. The horse's 'human mom' was out of town when he succumbed to his known health issues. This piece was to be a surprise for her. She isn't a jewelry girl, and doesn't really like flashy stuff. It took some serious creativity, (and a little inspiration from another online source, to be completely honest), to come up with a plan that was given the green light by her friends who comissioned the piece.
This horse was a Palimino, so I had a myriad of colors to work with from the start. I went with a 16 plait round braid with a core for the center piece, and found myself torn about the heart. Pouring over my well loved rawhide braiding books, I found an 8 plait, 'square' braid that I'd never worked up and decided to make a test piece.
It was absolutely perfect. Once braided up in horse hair, it appears to be 2, four strand braids that intersect, making this unique and attractive x shape. Seperate the colors, and we have a really unique two toned braid
This wall piece is about 18" long. In addition to the braids mentioned above, it also features 4 hand hitched "needle knots", also sometimes refered to as "joint cover knots". The tassel was kept full, and trimmed to be reminiscent of the shape of a horse's tail, also bringing a more natural feel to the completed piece.
A piece like this, using clean hair that you provide, would be about $250.
Pricing would vary based on a few details:
- Finished length desired
- Type / style of braid work desired
- Color mix (seperating and mixing colors takes some time!)
- If you were not able to provide enough hair, we would need to suppliment with hair that matched in color
- Number of needle knots and level of detail desired for the hitching work
